PE steel mesh skeleton pipe is a composite pipe, with high-strength steel wire (or steel belt) as the skeleton reinforcement material, and the outer and inner layers are covered with polyethylene (PE) plastic. The steel wire and plastic are tightly combined through a special process to form a “rigid and flexible” composite structure. It has the high strength and rigidity of steel, and retains the corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and good flexibility of PE, solving the problems of easy corrosion of traditional metal pipes and insufficient strength of pure plastic pipes.

PE Outer Layer + Metal Inner Layer

The HDPE steel wire skeleton composite pipe is composed of a PE outer layer and a metal inner layer. The outer layer is made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), which is corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant, protecting the internal structure and providing a smooth inner wall. The metal inner layer consists of high-strength steel wires that are wound or braided into a mesh skeleton, serving as the main pressure-bearing structure. During production, the steel wire skeleton is first formed and anti-corrosion treated, and then the molten HDPE is evenly coated on both the inner and outer sides through an extrusion molding process. The finished products must undergo strict quality control, including pressure tests and weld inspections.
This composite pipe combines high strength and rigidity. The steel wire skeleton enables it to withstand pressures ranging from 0.6 to 2.5 MPa. The HDPE outer layer endows it with excellent corrosion resistance, making it suitable for the transportation of acid-base liquids. Its temperature resistance ranges from -20°C to 60°C. It has strong impact resistance, which allows it to withstand external forces such as foundation settlement. Under normal working conditions, its service life can be as long as 50 years. The connection methods are convenient, using electrofusion or flange connections, which provide good sealing. Compared with pure HDPE pipes and steel pipes, it achieves a balance of performance in terms of strength, corrosion resistance, cost, and construction difficulty.
In municipal engineering, it is used for the transportation of tap water, sewage, and gas. In the industrial field, it is suitable for the transportation of chemical raw materials, mine tailings, and circulating water systems. In agricultural irrigation, it serves as the main pipeline for drip irrigation and sprinkler irrigation systems. In construction engineering, it can be used for building water supply and fire protection pipelines (flame-retardant materials are required). With its characteristics, it can meet the stringent requirements of different industries for pipelines.
During installation, it is necessary to avoid collisions with the pipes, ensure the buried depth complies with regulations, and strictly control the process parameters of electrofusion connections. In terms of maintenance, regularly inspect the anti-corrosion layer of exposed pipes and monitor deformation during high-temperature use. The product must comply with national standards such as GB/T 32489 – 2015, and pass pressure pipeline certifications and hygienic performance tests to ensure safety and reliability.
